In these times of pandemic, the formation of organizations or consortia such as MEDTEQ + is essential, which unites the efforts of around 170 organizations dedicated to fostering or promoting research and innovation in health technologies or medical solutions. This prestigious organization was launched in January 2013 with the support of the Canadian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and its members include universities, industries, health networks, among others. As of the date of its launch, this consortium has progressively held important events such as congresses, assemblies, forums, symposia and calls for projects related to the health area, it has also obtained important appointments that fill it with prestige, such as in December 2019 MEDTEQ was named one of Canada's Most Active Financial Institutions.
I am really satisfied with all the programs that it offers. Above all, I am interested in the MEDTEQ IMPAC program oriented to the development and financing of projects that involve at least one academic and one industrial partner. I think that this project opens opportunities for researchers or the university community to contribute their intellect or training in the health area and have the possibility of directly linking with the industry, which has a lot of experience to contribute, gives a greater probability of success to Projects. Thanks to it, a large number of innovative health projects related to optics, photonics, textiles, 3D printing, simulation, BioMEMS, biomaterials, among others, have been financed.
The MEDTEQ FSISSS program (Fonds de soutien à l'innovation en santé et en services sociaux) also attracts my attention. Since I am a scientist and I am very inclined towards the area of innovation and development, I consider that this program is one of the best it offers, supporting those innovative projects that guarantee their validity and usefulness in a real environment of health and medical services. It seeks to form collaborative interdisciplinary teams interested in a common topic.
The MEDTED + consortium constantly makes calls to participate in each of its programs. You must subscribe to receive notifications and other information of interest.
It should be noted that its web portal is very interesting, it provides enough information about the company and the programs it offers. I must admit that I spent hours reviewing the projects that have been developed in the health field and I am impressed and happy with all the innovation that exists in the medical field thanks to the support of MEDTEQ +. All the advancement in medical technology that has been achieved thanks to the support provided by MEDTEQ + benefits not only patients in Canada but also many others around the world.
