Review on Renewed Linksys WRT1900AC Open Source WiFi Wireless Router - AC1900, Dual Band by Paul Haswood

Certified refurbished My eye!

This package took a long time but I was very happy to see that this is a real ACS V2. The scope of delivery included a router, 4 antennas, a power supply unit and a CAT5e cable. There was no inner packaging or documentation. I plugged it in and entered 192.168.1.1 as the URL and no luck. I did some reading and found that this router doesn't have the typical default Linksys URL. It was 192.168.42.1. I connected and the interface was unknown to me. It had third-party VPN firmware. I figured out the password by reading some more. It was the number on the bottom of the router, not "admin". He wanted a different number to enter the interface, so I clicked the link. He then wanted me to pay for the VPN service. I just wanted native Linksys firmware. I went to the Linksys website and downloaded the latest firmware onto the router. It sounds easy enough, but I wasted an evening. I expected a quick/routine setup, which I've done many times before on Linksys routers. This router is clearly returnable and untested. I have a problem with it being called "Certified Refurbished". It should come with Linksys firmware. I doubt it has even been tested. Seems to be needed. For example, there is ink on the reset button. I'd rather pay full price for a new one. Disappointment is putting it mildly! After a month of use I decided to return this router as the WiFi keeps dropping out and requires a reboot. This can be done daily or once a week. Now I know why it was returned and resold. Downgraded from two stars to one star.
