I ordered a smaller diameter 27.2mm seat post as my old bike post "looked like" that way but didn't have a caliper to measure. won't fit my seat tube hole without using force or risking breaking the tube (hole) on the bike. Since this is an old REI NAVARA bike I took the old seat stem and this new shock to their bike mechanic. He said my seat stem bore is 26.5mm (old standard diameter) and a new stem would never fit 27.2mm. he confirmed that this is the current minimum seatpost diameter manufactured today. So I sent it back with no problems although the rod looked good quality. .That's why only 3 stars doesn't match my old bike.Try an alternative "seat spring" to absorb road bumps.ron
