Sturdy carriers that easily get the job done

These racks were purchased to attach to a set of standard crossbars on a 2015 Subaru Forester for carrying a kayak. If you're looking for a no-frills set of straight racks, look no further. That's exactly what you need. Great quality for the price and they come with everything you need. They turn easily enough for the average person who knows how to use a wrench. They also come with a set of large wing nuts for temporary use in place of the standard nuts if you don't want to keep them attached permanently. The standard 8ft kayak fits snugly to the body, with J-bars padded in just enough places to protect the kayak. The straps are of decent quality so as not to cause problems and are easy to use, if not a bit short. The only 2 downsides I can point out are that the posts appear to be designed for use on a rounded bar rather than a flatter bar. Because only with a flatter rung do the mounting brackets really touch the outer edges of the rung. But they tighten up and are strong enough that it doesn't really bother, it just looks a bit hectic at first glance. The only other downside, as mentioned above, is that the included straps are only 8 feet long. They stay ONLY long enough to wrap around the J-Rods and kayak. I prefer to wrap the kayak/J-Bars PLUS the crossbar itself for added security. But if you're just comfortable with the attachment around the kayak/j-bar, the included straps do just that and won't sag too much. It gets a bit tricky to get the strap in just the right place to tighten as there isn't much wiggle room. For the price of these racks the straps aren't much of an issue as this is a brand new set. 16-inch straps (twice as long as included) can be purchased for less than $10. All in all these racks are the perfect choice for those who just want a simple, reliable and durable rack without spending a lot of money.
