Review on ๐Ÿ”’ Hollywood Racks Locking Hitch Pin Bolt & Security Cable Lock, Black, 1/2-13 TPI by Michael Burdette

Mediocre if it fits.

For those looking for quick information, just know that this lock will not fit your hitch unless you have about 2" of free radius around the hitch pin assemblies and this provides practically zero protection against theft. . If someone has a wrench to loosen a threaded bolt, they're not going to slow it down at all, twist it a little tighter, and pop the lock right out. For those who find anger amusing, read on. I was once riding a bike on a rack and noticed that it bounced more than usual. I stopped and inspected my strut to see that the bolt was almost out. It wasn't a big problem as I was able to tighten it easily. However, the cotter pin, which was supposed to be my last line of defense to ensure the pin didn't come out of the clutch, is gone. I have no idea when or where it fell, all I know is that it disappeared. I figured I needed something more secure to hold this rack in place (more vibration resistant than thieves). I thought this would help. However, like many others, my hitch prevented me from setting the lock so I could access it with the key. Initially I didn't have enough space to put it on and since I shouldn't have sent it back I cut the plastic off the clasp. After that, I managed to fit a bare metal lock only to find I couldn't put the key in with all my imagination. I've read before that this lock opens when you pull the bolt back. I didn't care as I was looking for vibration protection, not vandalism. I decided to give it a try and with a few fairly light turns of the wrench the lock unlocked. Unfortunately, I'm not as lucky as others. When mine was released, he took with him a piece of metal that secures the pin. Since my lock is completely destroyed, I use the supplied threaded bolt with split pin hole. After the original cotter pin fell out, I inserted the bolt and tightened the two nuts onto it. After a few months of previous use, this seems to work much better than a pin.
