UPDATE: I noticed that the shorts don't have an elastic waistband. They have a drawstring in the front, but it doesn't tie around the waist, it just loops in the front so you can't tighten the shorts. For this reason I would recommend going down a size. These swim shorts were tried on by an 8 year old girl and they true to size. They are a good length, just above the knee. The design is really cool and he was a fan of it, except for some surfboards that looked like hot dogs because of the design. Overall good swim shorts and I would recommend this item.
