I love taking hard boiled eggs to work for a snack or lunch, but I've had a hard time getting them right. I've tried to narrow down the ideal time to cook, but haven't had consistent results. One day while searching the internet for this topic I stumbled upon it and decided it was worth a try for the price. I have to say I will never set a timer again or make any other form of guesswork. This thing has never let me down, and when it says the eggs are ready, they've always been exactly as the 'timer' says. When he said soft I found that and when he said medium or hard it was correct when I opened the balls. The only thing that worries me is that the device indicates its readiness by turning black from outer edge to edge. Center. As the blackened portion travels along the actual lines that indicate doneness, it becomes increasingly difficult to identify and read, so you lose that frame of reference as it approaches or exceeds the point. Since the darkened part has a slight gradient (it's not just a clear separation between black and no), it can be difficult to see upcoming lines before they even reach them. It's not that bad, and it's a bit annoying, but it takes a little getting used to.
