Review on 🚡 DNM Burner-RCP 2S Downhill Mountain Bike Rear Shock with 550lbs Capacity by Jonathan King

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Probably the best shock for you, Dollar

First impressions really good with this shock. Impressive quality for the money. I have a 2010 GT Force Carbon Expert and the original Fox RP23 ended up completely burning out. I find it difficult to justify the cost and time involved in sending in a shock for repair/rebuild. After much research into alternative shocks, I found someone who installed a shock with a different brand of coil with positive results. It's hard to tell how well anything can work with this suspension design, especially considering the stock shock has specific damping characteristics to work with the GT suspension design. This damper has an exact size of 190x51. You'll have to shave the bushings and aluminum shafts for a proper install, but that's not a problem. I was able to use the factory aluminum bushings on the swingarm after cutting the aluminum tube to the correct length. With the factory air shock I always had a problem with too much sag, no matter what the air pressure was, of course, and the damping was fine. With this coilover it seems to suit this setup better. It feels snug and controllable and has a progressive feel, which is good because the air shock progresses through its stroke. I don't think you can find a better replacement for an old MTB at this price point. I'll update once I have some time on the trails. I also feel like it suits my riding style better. I like to jump and air whenever possible. This shock offers far more control than the Stock Fox it replaced. With a decent air shock, this coilover weighs significantly more, but I think its performance will justify the weight loss. I'll update when I get enough time in the saddle with this shock. Btw I weigh 165-170 pounds and the 550 pound nib on this DNM is almost worth the money if not the money only time will tell. The nib is also a fairly standard size, so desired nib weight/flavor shouldn't be an issue. Even if you have to buy a different spring to better suit your weight, you're still in the $200 price range, which is a steal! I could buy an aftermarket spring just to save some weight, but honestly I'm not overly concerned about that.

Pros
  • Weight: 1016g = 2.24lbs Spring rate: 550lbs Damping: 4 systems Settings: rebound/compression/preload/high compression/hard shock setting
Cons
  • poorly thought out
