Review on Denon S650H 5.2 Channel AV Receiver, 4K UHD Home Theater Surround Sound (2019) with Music Streaming, HEOS Built-in, eARC, Upgraded HDCP by Karen Perez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good sound quality, many functions

Update: After the last review, I bought an Onkyo 2.1 receiver for my Bose bookshelf speakers. And I moved this one to the basement for a full 5.1 install. Polk speakers and LFE subwoofer connected. At a minimum, use banana plugs for the receiver. I ran out of forks and connected a pair with the included screw mechanism. But it was clumsy. Run the Audissey setup again. Surprisingly, everything calibrated, but the subwoofer stayed off in the receiver settings. I had to figure it out and turn it on manually. Now everything works fine, but it was strange. The sound quality is still very good. With larger speakers, if your source is a bit quieter, you'll need to turn the volume up to 70. What I don't like here are the sound and speaker settings through the app and on the screen. When streaming a Dolby DD+ movie, the output automatically switches to 2.1 and turns off the other speakers. I was completely surprised. The DTS Neo:6 option disappears and you can set it to multi-channel stereo to use other speakers. If your source is 5.1 or Dolby Atmos, using DTS Neo:6 is your best bet and I've set this as My Default in Quick Settings. ------------- First, I tried a cheap audio receiver from another company for my Bose speakers. I bought this from Revain and then noticed a buzzing noise. returned it So I got this to fix the problems. Plenty of ins and outs - more than I'll ever need for my small room. But the WiFi options and features are good given so many streaming services. I wish Denon hadn't labeled the inputs like they do on the console and console. We don't have that. These are generally old generation options and the internet has changed everything for streaming connections. As a result, the system looks archaic despite the updated design. I just ignore the names there, but it's a bit annoying to see them every time.
