Difficult to explain my experience!

Difficult to explain my experience! I began to put a larger piece on an old, ugly, rubbed up composite kitchen counter. Absolutely gross. Knowing anything would be better I began the challenge. At first it was a disaster. The dimensions of the old composit were so out of kilter that trying to stretch a large piece of the contact paper to match along the edges straight made a hundred buckles. It also didn't want to stretch nicely at the counter curve down in front. I ripped it up and threw it out as other reviews had done. I also kept in mind the nice experience others had had as well. Luckily I bought two rolls 'cause many reviews had wished they had bought xtra. I was determined to improve my horrifying rental kitchen counter in a tiny rustic 1930's studio. It was filthy & disgusting from the 70's probably. I decided to make double rows of thin strips. That way the curves and crookedness could be delt with a few inches at a time. I figured possibly it might look like tile. It took me about 5 hrs to painstakingly piece a tiny counter together. I had to smooth many wrinkles each piece but it was doable. Frustrated & upset I finally finished with a counter that looks pretty awesome & like marble tile. I of course had nothing to lose. I then exhausted tried a larger piece on the smooth wall above the counter. That went on easily as others had discussed. I also learned that one direction smooths out & the other does not. It also depends on what material you are pasting the contact paper on. I can't say yes or no to recommending this. For me it turned out worth it by the end.

Pros
  • What a transformation from old countertop to a beautiful countertop, easy to install...
Cons
  • May require multiple rolls to cover larger surfaces
