This bunk mattress solved my daughter's problem when she wanted to sleep in a bunk bed. The mattress was well packed in the box and was easy to take out and start installing. We simply laid the mattress on the floor, opened the small door with the built in pump and turned the knob clockwise to inflate it. It took just over 2 minutes to inflate the mattress to a firm state. The fabric on the upper is nice and soft, while the sides and base are made from a heavier fabric that feels like it will hold up well during use. You also get a small patch kit that you'll hopefully never need. I didn't notice a built-in pad unless they call the outer rim or border a pad. We had no complaints and did a great job accommodating my daughter's sleepovers. counterclockwise and it closes the valve and deflates. When connected to the mains, the pump works in reverse, creating a vacuum and sucking air out. Folding it up is easy once the air is out. It is also easy to stow away in the supplied bag. This mattress works great and can handle 11 and 12 year olds. The only thing I would change is the carry/storage bag. The black pencil on one side looks like an afterthought. Two handles on the sides of the opening would be much more practical
