Enough for small projects

This is a sturdy and well made adapter. The horizontal circle is said to equal fifteen vernier seconds, but honestly it's easier to estimate by eye than using a vernier with its dubious accuracy. The horizontal scale is in degrees and uses a quadrant system (0-90) instead of an azimuth system (0-360). The vertical scale is measured in degrees and has no vernier scale. The vertical scale is a bit more difficult to read due to the distance between the adjustable indicator line and the scale itself. I would trust that to an accuracy of two or three degrees. Seems to work well for alignment; With the locking bar (black horizontal stripe on the right in the picture) you can lock the adapter in a horizontal position. The optics and reticle are of good quality and the scope can focus surprisingly close. The telescope includes 100x stadium lines. The telescope does not sink (backwards without rotating). The maximum vertical angle is about 40 degrees up or down. The base feels solid and the locking and tangent screws work as intended. Pros: Sturdy construction Good leveling ability Good horizontal scale for the price Good optics Cons: Poor vernier No vernier on vertical scale Horizontal scale doesn't snap, instrument does. If the scale is misaligned, the readings will be wrong. All in all a good product for small construction and leveling jobs. I recommend it to house builders, landscape architects, amateur cartographers (like me). Not recommended for geodetic work that requires accuracy better than 1/1000. Good value for money.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
