I had to shorten the tube that went to the bottom of the filter to about a third of its original length to fit in the aquarium and the plant that came with it is quite thorny so I removed it and used the other one that I had . However, it works surprisingly well. UPDATE: It doesn't look like it's filtering anything out of the water, it's just stirring the crap around. Because the base is below the gravel, no shit gets into the filter there, and every time you change the water, the new water immediately gets dirty again.
