LG's WH14NS40 is a great buy if you want to rip your 4K Blu-rays to play on Kodi or Plex. Significantly cheaper than official 4k drives (maybe more than double). The drive does not read 4k discs by default (firmware v1.04+). However, there are easy ways to downgrade the firmware to version (v1.02). With the new free software, this has become very easy. Now you don't even need to switch SATA to IDE (from AHCI) in BIOS. All you need is a utility and .bin files to get the job done. The firmware version installed on the drive from the factory prevents you from going directly to the desired firmware version. So you need to upgrade to the appropriate version. But the utility doesn't care. You simply download the version that allows you to downgrade (v1.04 MK) and then go through the same process with a firmware version that can read 4k discs (v1.02). You can easily find detailed information about the downgrade online. Google the keywords Makemkv, the drive model number, and the term downgrade.
