Review on TRENDnet Wireless AC1200 Bridge TEW 800MB by Jimmie Gebrehiwot

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I bought two of these devices and they turn off after about 24 hours of inactivity. The configuration options are very limited.

UPDATE 9/29/17: I bought two of these units and even after configuring my main 5GHz router between 80Mhz channels - 149/80 wifi channel and WPA2/AES selected to secure your WiFi. The TRENDNet Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Media Bridge will shut down after approximately 24 hours. I updated the firmware to the latest version that I downloaded from the TRENDNet support site. I even disabled WMM in Quality of Service (QoS). I still get disconnects. It doesn't always reconnect to the router after a reboot. At first glance these bridges look great as they fix for about $17 but they just don't work. Period. I think TRENDNet gets a lot of these returns, they "fix" them by updating the firmware and maybe doing quick quality control tests, deploying them and selling them to new unknowing consumers. Do not buy! I have made 2 return/refund requests on the grounds that they are defective. If that sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Please note that I have a TP-LINK bridge that works fine in the same network environment. It reconnects after rebooting the router, it just works. Save money and time and avoid this product. TRENDNet will not sell a product that simply does not perform as advertised. Whoever came up with this scheme of selling "refurbished" devices for $17 a piece should be fired. When these devices were returned after being purchased new, TRENDNet had to do their homework and thoroughly test these bridges with various routers to ensure the connection lasted for days, not hours. Instead, they seem to have taken the easier route. Update the firmware, do a little quality control to verify the initial connection, box up those devices, list them on the Amazon marketplace, and shut them down. They shouldn't even be sold if they disconnect and need to be restarted, and even then they won't connect. FIRST POST This bridge will work and not drop the connection if you set your router/access point (to which all devices connect) to the following settings (according to Adrian in tech support) - 5 GHz channel - channel width up to 80 MHz - 149 wireless channels - choose WPA2 / AES for security of your wireless network. Then your Wi-Fi bridge network connection will never get disconnected or time out.

Pros
  • Rugged build
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
