Review on Efficient and Reliable: GIRARD 2GWHAM Tankless Water Heater by Alexis Guiney

Revainrating 5 out of 5

No more cold showers, no more waiting for hot water! Best money I've ever spent!

update year. The device still performs like a champ! I get a 73F rise over the block in a 40 water temp in the winter with something in it. I can't find any flaws in this device. Three month update. Still runs strong AND uses less propane than it would otherwise on a 12 gallon commuter. As we all know, running DSI heaters on both propane and AC provides faster recovery. No problem with the Girard device. I see a 65°F rise throughout the unit, but I still have it up to 115°F. Still by far the best $500 I've ever spent on our trainer. I just wish I had them in all of our vans! Mom is still happy with her 25 minute shower and I don't mind the extra time under that hot water to relax those old bones before bed. I've seen some other reviews that are really ragged on this device. Remember three things: You MUST ensure the MINIMUM flow rate of 0.9 gpm is as pulseless as possible or the flow sensor will not disable the control circuit. If you regulate the temperature in your plumbing fixture (shower/sink) and the hot water flow falls below 0.9 GPM, you will be hit with a cold water splash. I prefer to set the temperature to the desired water temperature and heat up to the full. This eliminates undesirable flow characteristics due to the infamous low flow water fittings used on recreational vehicles. Finally, if you're not connected to shore, don't waste your shower time or you'll have a full gray water reservoir before you even know it. Remember, you must also order a replacement door for the existing EXISTING unit you are replacing/upgrading. It was the absolute best investment we've ever made to enhance our RV'ING experience! As a plumber, the installation was pretty easy. Using the existing 12V DC for my "old/new" 10 gallon Suburban in our new 2017 Columbus fifth wheel, the installation took about two hours. You will need to order a separate door for your existing opening/water heater. If you have average skill and mechanical ability, you should be able to do the installation yourself. If you have concerns, please install the professional version. Today I took my first 10 minute shower in the fifth wheel, as did my wife. The heater has a minimum flow rate of 0.9 GPM to ignite. So if you're using a shore pressure regulator, make sure you're getting at least 1 GPM through your showerhead. I did the old bucket and stopwatch trick and ended up with 1.5 gallons per minute. I also used the existing 12VDC from the water heater switch on the control panel. You may see some complaints, but trust me, if you install it properly and provide proper water flow, you will LOVE THIS HEATER!
