Not the best quality and might put off newbies!

Seems like a lot of good stuff for a reasonable price, but you really get what you pay for. I've been painting with acrylics for many years so I should have known better when it came to my daughter's interest in the craft. Since she was a beginner, I figured I wouldn't go the professional route and buy her a starter kit. A starter kit isn't always great quality, but I was hoping it was better quality than this one! I'd rather go and buy professional paints! Some of these bottles weren't easy to unscrew without tools, and I'm a pretty strong woman. It definitely needed a tool! The colors I was able to salvage for my daughter to paint had a terrible run and you get absolutely no cells unless you add more Floetrol and/or pour in oil. This might be a little better if you're trying to attract more newbies. I think this set will frustrate any beginner enough to stop. They are pre-mixed, but that's not enough. Which paint bottles were you able to save? I added a little more fill medium (Floetrol) to each bottle to improve flow and leveling. Even at the right room temperature, there is always a risk of cracks. A good drying temperature is 75 degrees. You don't want the temperature to be too hot or too cold, no matter what brand of pot paint you use. There are no fans either. They cause cracks. I highly recommend getting a good professional thick acrylic paint like Liquitex and mixing it with a good potting medium like Floetrol. You have to mix it yourself, but at least you know you're using good stuff. If you are using a brand that is NOT ready to pot, make sure it is HEAVY BODY professional acrylic paint and you will always need a potting medium. If you plan on sealing your acrylic art with resin later, make sure you DO NOT use silicone based products in your products. Most filler oils are silicone based. So make sure your media or additives do NOT contain silicone. Silicone is one of resin's worst enemies. Don't buy this. I bought their canvas products and am quite happy with them although they are expensive but these colors? No no no! I do NOT recommend!

Pros
  • Finished pot paint
Cons
  • boring packaging
