Review on 🛶 Kayalu Kayalite Portable LED Kayak Light - Bright White for Enhanced Visibility by Tommy Penn

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very functional design

Updated comments and upgraded rating to four stars based on manufacturer's response. The mount design is sophisticated, durable, and gets the job done, but the build quality of the LED and reflector leaves a lot to be desired. : Have 95% of the walks ready in case I find myself out on the water after dark. Used in fresh water, typically outside of motorized boats when it's dark. General Comments: The design of this device appears to be a well thought out engineering challenge that offers a very effective simplicity. I see it both in terms of production and in terms of end use. It had no bling-bling and money was spent where it was most effective, not where it wasn't needed. Simplicity is good, although I'd like to make a few lavish changes. The mount's design is good in that it's reliable, but it doesn't break if you roll it over rocks or just roll through the water quickly. Using the bungee as a spring with an adjustable length is a great addition to my deck mount, the design is waterproof and the LED is the right level of brightness: bright enough to be seen but not so bright that it ruins your night vision. if installed behind you. Note: I don't find this as useful as a spotlight, but it does exactly what I bought it for. I don't use it to look around, I use it to let other boats see me. I have other 1000 lumen dimmable bulbs if I want to look around. As for the LED, my LED is not exactly centered in the hole in its reflector, and the battery's positive contact looks like solder. Not terrible, but not what I expected from a flashlight at this price point. However, I expect this will be a low volume product (and therefore cannot spread the development costs over a large number of parts) so I expect this will lead to some solutions. Also, the lens is very different from other flashlights I use, so the lack of a precise LED mount doesn't have a noticeable impact on this flashlight's performance for its intended purpose. As for the carbine, I correct myself. What I thought was an oxidizing hole under some kind of sticky film was instead. 100% sticky film. I took some brake cleaner and it rubbed down to shiny metal. This is by no means the difficult part, but it gets the job done. There are no oxides on the carabiner yet.
