Review on Enhance Your Steering Wheel Control with the PAC SWI-RC Interface SWI-RC-1 by Victor Ahmed

Works on my 2012 Tundra. but was difficult to assemble due to poor instructions

I bought this device to save a few bucks knowing there are other products that are easier to use (Metra Axxess ASWC-1 etc). In hindsight, I probably should have gone the more expensive route considering how much extra time I spent figuring things out. Anyway, for my 2012 Tundra I also had to buy a Metra 70-8114 steering wheel controller harness so it could be connected. directly to the wiring harness of the old car radio. I have a newer 2 din Boss stereo. To get things done you basically connect three wires from the Metra 70-8114 wiring harness to the SWI-RC-1 box. The wires are ground and then two for the controller. The difficulty is that the documentation isn't clear and it took some time to figure out what they meant. If you zoom in on my picture you can see that the top left wire should be connected to ground. The next one is connected to white and the one on the far right should be connected to white with a black stripe. Finally, connect the power supply (red) from the SWI-RC-1 to the system power supply (red) and you should see the LED on the SWI-RC-1 illuminate when you turn the key to the ACC position. Then each additional press of the steering wheel controls (volume or track buttons) will cause the LED to light up again. The controls for the volume and track buttons worked right out of the box. I didn't program to order. Looking back, I realize that this could all have been done in about 30 minutes. However, I spent a lot of extra time decoding things instead of shorting out my new stereo. Much luck!

Pros
  • Quick and easy pre-programmed button function via DIP switch selection
Cons
  • There are even more interesting options.
