Review on Stens High Back Seat 420-182 for John Deere AM131531 - Yellow (1 ea) by Ronnie Staver

Not as good as the original but good value for money

So this seat is from the same manufacturer as my 20 year old seat but with a different part number, no Deere logo on the back. For a real tractor (I have an LX277 with a serial number of 40,000) this is ideal. It took me exactly 4 minutes to switch places and two of those minutes I went back to the house to get a screwdriver to remove the e-clip. The emergency switch fits perfectly. However, the quality doesn't seem to be nearly as good as my original. The Original has a heavy duty thermoformed vinyl finish over soft foam. This seat looks like the styrofoam has been dipped or sprayed in vinyl paint. There are some bubbles on it, similar to defects in a thicker "color". Maybe even a second? The foam is much denser but for my 290lb weight it's actually more comfortable, for a thinner person it can be hard as rock. The size is exactly the same. The drain pipe used is too high to drain the remaining water, unlike the molded passageway on my original, and the color is a bit faded. That being said the price is MUCH less than half the current dealer price and as far as I know the dealer can offer the exact same seat today. Do I think it will last 15 years if my previous chair started breaking, or 20 years if I renewed it? Probably not, but if I get five to seven years out of it that would be a reasonable deal. In my photos, the brackets appear to be closer together than the OEM, but that's a perspective error, the fit is perfect.
