Very impressive spare part

This is a genuine spare part. The linear gear (the piece of plastic with the teeth) appears to be about 2 inches shorter than the stock on my 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser, but the antenna works fine. The teeth must face forward when inserting the antenna for the mechanism to engage and pull it back. First compare the old part to the new to make sure there is no part left in the motor assembly. If so, be prepared to spend an hour or two removing the antenna motor assembly and pulling out the old part. You can then reassemble it and it will retract the new antenna in seconds. My gear was about 18 inches long on the old one, so I knew I had to disassemble the knot. That's not difficult. I needed my drill and some 10mm sockets and wrenches, a flat head screwdriver to pry some clips underneath the sleeve and a couple of large torx screws removed. Plastic anchors had to be removed from all major fasteners to free the liner and lower it for access. The chrome trim at the base of the antenna was removed using small needle nose pliers and an adjustable wrench. Take some photos along the way if you like. Essentially remove the wheel arch liner, remove the 10mm screw on the antenna motor assembly, remove the antenna cable clamp, disconnect the electrical connection - then move the entire unit down taking care not to strain the antenna cable. Remove a few Phillips screws from the round case, including the middle one and the one with a hidden nut under the ring terminal. Carefully open the lid and remove the old part. open a beer Return everything carefully. First insert the new antenna into the hole pin and turn on the radio - it should tighten fairly quickly. I didn't need an assistant.
