Works great! A strong magnet keeps it in place. Wherever you want. I had no idea magnets could be that strong (for tanks). i am newbie Either way, you can place it anywhere. When the rays are not aimed at the surface, it is generally silent. I like hearing it, so I aimed it at the surface. Sometimes I lower it while feeding the fish. Holding it up will scatter the food around the tank. This is useful when you have a small fish trying to eat and a bully in the tank (who would eat anything!) 🐠😂
