I'm slowly starting to collect whiskey. I've been to distilleries in Scotland and Ireland and tasted Scotch whiskies, bourbons and whiskeys from all over the world. I have a starter collection of all kinds of whiskeys and bourbons that I buy whenever I can. Again and again they are served and drunk from a Glencairn whiskey glass. It's the result of the old adage, "Necessity is the mother of invention." If you're drinking whiskey from a regular or rock glass, you're missing out on half the fun - the bouquet! You really have no idea what you're missing until you put your mood in this glass. A large bowl at the bottom allows you to shake well without fear of spilling. A heavy piece of glass underneath stands confidently on the table, not afraid to tip over. The high fluted neck allows the twist to rise high and open the whiskey and also beautifully shows off your whiskey's slow oily legs. The fluted neck also allows you, more importantly, to intensely concentrate all the aromas in a small space, transporting the nose perfectly. If you're used to sniffing whiskey from a Rocks glass, remember this isn't the same. DO NOT close your mouth or take a deep breath! Hold the jar 7-10 inches from your nose and allow the aroma to freely enter your nose, then remove. Bring the glass about 3-5 inches to your nose and breathe in with your mouth open, then remove. The third breath is taken about ½ inch from your nose, again with your mouth open so you can almost smell the scents. This glass is absolutely essential for a true understanding of these wonderful spirits. DO NOT add cola, ginger ale or a handful of ice to single malt whiskey! Pour a sip of a fine drink into this glass, let it brew, age, open, release all the flavors drawn from oak casks many years ago and sit for a while with one of life's simple pleasures.BUY THIS GLASS!
