Convenience + Time Saver

I just received my Pandigital Photolink One-Touch PANSCN06 8.5" x 11" (PANSCN06) and scanned about 20 4x6 photos. I can only say wow. What speed. Photos are transferred as JPG files straight to the supplied SD card (it came with a 1GB card, how nice!) When switched on, the scanner works at 300 dpi by default, which is indicated by the green LED. bright. When you press the power button again, the GREEN power LED changes to orange and the scanner starts scanning at 600 dpi. Scanning a 4x6 photo in standard mode at 300 dpi takes about 3 seconds, in 600 dpi mode about 10 seconds. Scanning an entire sheet of 8.5 x 11 inch paper takes about 7 seconds at 300 dpi, but since the paper is constantly moving, it feels like it's moving as fast as possible. The image quality is quite acceptable for the photos I tested. I don't have any high res photos to hand to compare the two scan settings, however this scanner can't compete with 9600x4800 dpi flatbed scanners. The scanner will not magically "sharpen" 3X5 or 4X6 photos beyond the resolution they were captured. However, the image on the computer screen (1920X1080) is very similar to the original photos. I didn't notice much of a difference between scanning at 300 dpi and scanning at 600 dpi. This isn't because 600dpi doesn't work, it's because the original photos themselves weren't that sharp, and the higher resolution required another resolution. If the original photo was taken with the camera mount shaking, creating this event will not magically make it disappear. Such magic requires the artistic skills of Photoshop. I have a program that can print JPG files to PDF. This allowed me to scan a document and some photos, select them all from my file manager's context menu, and merge them all into one PDF - images and photos! It was cool. I'm not sure I need to do this regularly, but it's nice to be able to do it. With the purchase of this scanner, I now have a very handy document scanner in addition to an image scanner and will no longer contact my wife for this task. 1 Honeydew is excluded from the list. Hooray for me. Wife loves how easy it is to make. So gentlemen, earn a point or two for this purchase. lol. I haven't seen any lines on photos or scans yet. If my device physically breaks rest assured I will update this review to reflect how long it took. If not, then it still works. If you're looking for a handy scanner to digitize photos or documents, you won't be disappointed. I was torn to the point of buying a higher end scanner or this one. If you're hesitant about this, I recommend you try that first and then see how much the need for higher quality bothers you. You'll probably decide, like me, that this fits the bill.
