The alternator needs an oil and filter change when the internal clock indicates it. If you plan on doing the work yourself, this is an easy way to prepare. I haven't checked to see if these parts are available at the local parts stores but suspected they would have to be ordered which would take some time and two trips into town as they weren't made for cars.
