Review on πŸ”Œ SinLoon 3.28ft USB 5V to DC 12V Converter: Power Cable for Camera, Desk Lamp, Speakers, Bluetooth Headset, and More by Cameron Kennedy

Didn't work exactly how I wanted

I got this for a LED project I'm working on. I accidentally got 12V LED strips when I needed 5V. I have a 5v power supply and didn't want to use 8 AA batteries as it would make my cosplay props too heavy. So I decided I just needed a boost converter. Now take this review with a grain of salt as I'm just a beginner and amateur and probably didn't use it in the right scenario. I connected the converter cable to my power supply and then to the LEDs. At first everything worked perfectly! I used a roughly 6 inch strip to test this and it shone so bright and beautiful. I attached all my LEDs to the pole and soldered all the connections. I connected the power supply to the converter and then to the LEDs and they blinked once and then stopped. I tried again and they did the same. I'm pretty sure the converter overcompensated for the number of LEDs on my pole and was putting out too much current. I tried connecting a resistor and it reduced the output power, but it didn't have the right amount of ohms. In the end I just gave up on my MacGyver situation and decided to get some 5V animated LEDs from Adafruit and just do it the way I was supposed to from the start. In short I would use this in a small project. many LEDs. I got this in a pinch and it ended up not working for my lights at all. This will probably sit in my LED box until I have a situation where I need it, but I don't see it happening.

Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
