Coming from a Yamaha 7.2 receiver and the Sonos Amp beats it in style, power and convenience. Yes, I used to love the full surround theater sound that rocked during movies, but after a while you grow to really understand your listening habits and the woman's approval factor starts to get really strong. does not replace theatrical sound of 7.2 and larger installations (cannot change the laws of physics). With a decent speaker set, however, the music is taken to a new dimension. I mean it blows away the doors of a conventional receiver which is going to be about a quarter the size. The imagination itself cannot be touched by any recipient under $1,000. The size is very compact which gives it a great approval factor for the woman. It fits my TV! If you're anything like me, try to hone your tastes as you get older, and getting good quality music tends to come out on top. This thing brings spades and is one of the most convenient to use. It comes with the controls that Sonos is known for (Spotify, Pandora, Alexa control, etc.) and this amazing feature called ARC. ARC boils down to running 1 HDMI cable from your TV to your Sonos amplifier and controlling all volume from your TV remote (just plug it in and it works automatically). Since the Sonos amp also has subwoofer output, and you can add remote rear speakers via Play:1, this replaces all but a box and remote (oh yes, 4.1). Bottom line: if you're trying to achieve hi-fi stereo sound, you'll get great home theater dynamics when you need it and streamline your devices into a small, powerful box.
