Look at the numbers!

I have a GE fridge with an MWF filter. This filter is at least 2 years old and shows 180-190 ppm with two different water meters. I replaced it with this Glacier Fresh filter and also tried the original manufacturer's RevainBasics GE MWF Enhanced Filtration Refrigerator Water Filter Cartridge and GE Smartwater MWF. Water tests at 240-245 PPM each. This is after at least 3 gallons of water has been spilled through each one, and no matter how much water I spilled, the numbers are in that slight 5ppm difference in the 240-245ppm range. That's ridiculous. I think all of these filters don't do their job very well unless your water is very bad and is 300ppm or more then it can get better and you have to test it yourself. Here's the crazy thing. My tap water is about 242 ppm. With this filter, the best reading I got after running 4 gallons of water through it was 242 ppm. I took this water and poured it through my ZERO WATER and it showed 0 ppm. I put back a used 2 year old GE MWF filter and the water came out at 186ppm. We're just going to keep running that water through our Zero Water and in the next house we're going to install a whole house filtration system. The only things that are constant are my tap water which is usually in the 240ppm range and my zero water which is always 0ppm. I will say one thing: All 3 filters I tried give about the same results. What I can't tell you is if it will help you get water from 400 to 250ppm. What I can tell you is that if your water is 240ppm the filters don't seem to do anything. I mean, what's the point of having a water filter in your fridge when the water coming out is 240ppm and the tap water is about the same? You're just burning your money. If filter manufacturers would like to explain, I'd love to hear them. I called GE to ask for an explanation but they couldn't give me one. I asked them what the PPM should be after they pass your filter. They had no answer. This should be a warning to everyone.

Pros
  • High test results for hold and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
