This is a high torque drill. Hold him tight while you drive the screws in, but be very careful, start slowly, or he'll twist the screwdriver (Phillips or flathead) in the head of the screw and snap it off. It takes practice and effort to slowly start this drill while screwing. And yes, it's the slower of the two speed settings. When drilling, the torque is high, just make sure you tighten the bit firmly in the chuck, otherwise the high torque may cause the bit to spin around the bit. Update 09/2021: Re-Rating to 3 Stars: After using this drill to disassemble and repair my deck, the cartridge started to fail. If you tighten as hard as possible, the drill bit (3/32 inch) will get stuck in the jaw, but the drill bit will continue to rotate. Makes it difficult to re-engage the chuck to extract the drill. When using it with a torx extension to drive deck screws, the torx extension is often dropped due to the loose chuck. Many times it will fall through the deck to the ground and to get the bit out you have to go back and forth down and under the deck - slowing down the deck. I expected the battery to fail in the first part of this kit, not the hardware itself.
