Review on πŸ“· Pentax HD DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE Lens: Ultimate Long Zoom Performance for Professional Photographers by Takahara Hideo ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I am amazed at how well the product is made, just magically!

I was pleasantly surprised by the picture quality of this zoom. I compared it with fifty dollars, and with the 77-lim, with the 135th zonnar: very decent image quality. Nice drawing. The bokeh is slightly harsher than the fixes, but still good. The resolution in the center, of course, does not reach FA77, but it does not reach it slightly (noticeable only at 100% magnification), which is completely excusable for the zoom. The "collapsible" design somewhat reduces the efficiency, but allows you to significantly save space in the wardrobe trunk, while nothing backlashes, the "trunk" is fixed clearly.

Pros
  • Very good resolution (on a 24MP sensor) over the entire range of focal lengths. Good contrast and color rendition, including in backlight. Chromatic aberrations (noticeable at the edges of the frame) are very small - I shot in RAW and never had a reason to correct them. Uniquely small dimensions (when folded). Weatherproof design. Fast (not strictly tested, but it feels like instantaneous) and silent autofocus.
Cons
  • Low aperture, but this is not a disadvantage, but a feature. Thanks to her - supercompact. (Relative aperture 5.6 is maintained somewhere up to 260-270mm focal length)
