We have long struggled with products for our puppies. We wanted what was best for her without having to take out a second mortgage on the house. There were private labels and more expensive brands. Grainless varieties and every other damn variety. When one of our dogs suddenly developed an allergy, we knew we needed something else. Our vet recommended Royal Canin for Beagles but our two puppies who are Beagle crossbreeds didn't choose it. We tried it and hit the jackpot. There was less scratching and they didn't seem to be overly concerned with their poop anymore - which is nice because it's gross (although dogs in the wild get most of their food from eating poop). However, it also means that the ingredients in this food are highly digestible and there is not much left in the food for our puppies to be happy about. I hesitated when it was recommended, but the proof is in the pudding. Or in this case poop.
