Sturdy door but difficult to assemble and no customer service

I really like the construction of this door but the installation is not for the faint of heart and I also received a broken door Installation instructions is that you need to drill a hole in the door large enough to fit not only the flap but also the four screws that hold the outer frame and inner frame together. This results in you having to blindly try to align the screws with the holes while flipping them in the desired direction. If instead they got you to cut less than four screw holes and drill four screw holes instead, you could just thread the screws through the holes and they would line up perfectly. All of this assumes you have a flawless door like mine. After 1.5 hours trying to get the screws in we finally took everything apart and just connected the two frames together and found that the two holes in the outer frame were drilled in the wrong place so the holes never matched. with his comrades in the inner frame. No wonder we couldn't get the screws in! I was afraid that if I just sent it back and got another one from Revain I would run into the same problem so I decided to contact the company directly so they could check the holes before sending it to me . While Patio Pacific does have a website, they don't have contact information so you'll have to contact PetDoors.com instead, and indeed they were closed for the weekend. I was waiting and trying to call them this morning when their website and record said they were open after a few hours and I still got their record after hours! I waited a few minutes and tried again. the same thing. So I chose Revain. I really wanted to give this door more stars because it seems like a great door, but after the installation guide and after-sales service I can't give more (yet). I will update this review as soon as I receive the replacement unit.*** Status 06/01/2015 ***I received the replacement unit on December 30th but have not yet installed it. I took it. out of the box to make sure the holes lined up and matched on the new device, maybe the first one was just a coincidence. I'm still disappointed with the lack of customer service. I'm increasing my rating to three stars and will update this review after spending some time with the door. I can imagine the door closing much louder than other dog doors I've encountered. My two-year-old mini schnauzer is still a bit afraid of it and has been using the dog door since he was six weeks old. I suspect removing some of the magnets might calm some of them down, but I haven't had a chance to try this yet. Impressed with the high build quality of this door and given that the first door I received was defective, I carefully inspected every detail. It has a lot of metal parts and little plastic, so I expect many years of trouble-free service. Based on that alone, I'm raising my final rating to four stars.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Some minor issues
