Review on Ken Tool 34549 Dual Wheel Separator by Mike Groover

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great tool. best tool for tires and wheels

This is one of those specialty tools that every auto mechanic or "tool fanatic" should have in their toolbox. Note that this is only useful for removing the rear dual wheels on heavy pickups and large trucks. When you need it, you need it, and while the cost may make you wince, it's worth the price and doesn't smash the wheels and risk other damage to the truck; or pay for a service call. During these calls, the service representative will usually tell you that there are no guarantees and that the work is done at your own risk. Then a sledgehammer comes out. That's how I got around to buying mine. When I use it, I first apply a good quality penetrant to the wheel and around the studs while loosening the lug nuts. Then I push this tool around the wheel one at a time, a little at a time, in different places around the wheels. If the truck has aluminum wheels, I put a rag between the mating surfaces of the tools. The inner wheels are usually steel, so greasing with a rag is not necessary. Like any tool of its kind, it is very tiring. If you apply too much force in one spot and the wheel doesn't move, you're bending something. Just keep working at it and suddenly the wheel will "give out". Fortunately, this tool protects the expensive wheel bearings. I keep mine in my truck.
