I am a college student who uses knitting as a remedy for anxiety. I really hoped this curler would work for me as it was cheap and was exactly what I needed, but it wasn't high quality at all and not very useful to me. I had ruined at least 2 full skeins of this thing and spent 3 hours (no exaggeration) untangling the yarn that was killing this tool. Every time I wind yarn, unless I keep a close eye on the yarn itself, which is tricky with the Swift yarn on the other side of you. The gears will sound like they want to move as well when there is resistance from the yarn during winding.
