The overall construction is quite strong and durable. When I first got the locks, I noticed that the key in the locking mechanism was difficult to turn. The key could not be removed until he locked the latch again, which was awkward as I kept the small key with my car keys. Removing the key from the lock was also a problem. When I tried to open the locks for the first time, the key would not turn and then it would not remove. The attached key ring actually broke when trying to remove the key. I ended up throwing away the locks that had the broken part of the key in them.
