This adapter allows you to upgrade your old Moen "Standard" valve and use the newer "Moentrol" fairing. It will not work with anything marked "posi-temp". I have an older Moen "standard" valve with two holes on the bottom and the adapter fits easily over the existing valve. The diagonal holes in the adapter do not line up with the holes in the new pad designed for Posi-Temp. Even if you decide to drill and cut the holes yourself this still won't work as the clamp for the Standard and Moenttrol is a smaller diameter than the newer Posi-Temp, leaving a gap between the clamp and the fairing. So if you have an older Moen valve you are really limited in the type of trim kit you are going to use and if you want to upgrade to "MOentrol" you will pay more for the kit. Trim kits average $100-$200 more expensive than Posi-Temp or stick with old 1960's trim styles if you can find them at all. moen fail
