Review on MK808BT Diagnosis Functions Including MaxiCheck by Jason Staggs

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Loved it but not sure after 8 days

We have 3 cars after 1996 with OBD2. Check Engine ads mostly, if not entirely, relate to emissions. Modern cars have hundreds of modern conveniences and each system is controlled by a computer module. The only way to assess a system without outliers is to use a scan tool designed to assess the parameters of that system. The Autel maxiCOM MK808BT is well made. Feels like quality. It turns on quickly and has all the modern connectivity options like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth connected dongle allows users to operate the vehicle wirelessly and this freedom is a real benefit when it comes to diagnostics. The battery registration portal is a great feature that is usually found on more expensive devices. This allows users to change batteries in vehicles (e.g. BMWs) and change their rating code for the vehicle. Vehicles like bmw monitor and rate batteries during operation based on their advanced charging characteristics. If the replaced battery is not registered in the vehicle, the battery life and performance may be affected. Users can also reset oil settings during scheduled maintenance. I've just started using this scanner but plan to update it as soon as time permits. Update: I have to say I'm not very impressed with autel's tech support so far. No response to help. The battery upgrade utility mentioned in the user manual does not seem to be available. The main reason for purchasing this tool is the ability to change the oil and battery, including battery upgrades. While the tool registers a new battery of the same size removed. But so far I haven't managed to upgrade, and the manual has info. However, this is a dead end way to change the amp-hour of a new battery in a car. I am considering the possibility of returning the device as it does not meet all the parameters of some of the included service requirements. Basically this device does the same as Foxwell 510 but 3 times more expensive.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Really don't like it everything is fine
