Review on Trimax TAR300 Anti Rattle Receiver Locking by Shawn Mcfee

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Effective, but not without flaws.

An effective way to eliminate vibration and rattle on a light to medium duty hitch. The hitch bolt is solid and the locking mechanism is a simple two-key cylinder lock with a protective rubber cap. The inner nut is welded to a bracket that fits inside the link (should be hollow, not solid) and held in place by friction between the bracket and the inside of the link. The included 3/4" wrench has a notch to help place the bracket in the drawbar and align the holes. However, some flexing of the bracket may be required to allow it to sit flush with the inside of the drawbar and easily engage the hitch screw. I use it on a hitch mounted carrier that weighs about 300 pounds fully loaded and eliminates the side-to-side wobble and most of the vertical wobble. Class IV clutch, 2" 950/9500 capacity clutch. Why not 5 stars? The included wrench turns with very little force, and the 3/4" hex on the end of the clutch bolt is flat and scratches easily, so I bought a short 3/4" ratchet wrench (GearWrench 9506). Works really well and the 'surface drive' is efficient, but it makes the whole package quite expensive. Also, coarse threads can get messy with a combination made of bolt and nut seize easily and require greasing as well as rebounding of the retainer to tighten everything.. maybe the problem is not in the design/quality but what needs to be considered.overall a good solution for the price, think only think of the problems.
