This is exactly what you would expect from a traditional bamboo sushi rolling mat. There are some issues with this design and these are pretty easy to overcome, but compared to other bamboo sushi mats this is as good as anything I've seen. One problem is that the design of these mats allows moisture from the rice and other ingredients to get onto the string that holds the bamboo sticks together. This method works well because it's easy, and the fact that it holds itself together means it won't fall apart like cling film, but it doesn't necessarily stay as close to the bamboo as cling film.
