I am very satisfied with this new magnifying lamp. I chose this one because it came with both the base and the clip. I wanted to be able to put a lamp on the couch next to me while I did my crafts. But I also wanted to be able to attach it to a table if needed. The base is large, about 5 1/2 inches wide, and heavy enough to provide some balance when standing on the sofa's surface. The neck is long enough to reach my shoulder and flexible enough to conform to my body. work if necessary. The magnifying glass works well, although I haven't used it for the specific close-up work I need it for. I expect to get to that soon. I especially like the brightness and whiteness of the light. A magnetic flashlight is about this size, but it had a round bulb that eventually blew out and I couldn't find a replacement. So I was particularly interested in this lamp because it is LED. I don't have to worry about replacing the impossible-to-find lightbulb. Another feature I found helpful was that the power cord could be plugged in at the bottom of the lamp's neck. This proved helpful as I unplugged the power cord could Plug it into an outlet that is behind the sofa. We put the cord between the sofa parts so that the lamp is as close to me. Once the cord was connected to the wall, I was able to connect it to the lamp. But it's best when the company is visiting. I can turn the lamp off and put it aside without moving the cord or climbing behind the couch to turn it off and on again. This is an unexpected convenience. I feel I need to be a bit careful with the positioning of the magnifying glass because I've seen other reviews saying the bulb is broken where it connects to the neck. So far I haven't had any problems with this. There's really nothing that can replace a strong craft loupe (or younger eyes), but a loupe AND bright white light makes it perfect for my needs.
