Review on Ultimate Performance: Intel Core i7-2600 Quad-Core Processor with 8MB Cache and 3.4GHz Speed by Hng Quang ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fits the description completely, very satisfying.

The processor is good for games, for rendering, for some programs related to scientific calculations, for software developers who write programs using multithreading and parallel computing. But for everyday tasks it’s very good - you quickly get used to such speed. I overclocked it to 4200 MHz (multiplier 42). Then I experimentally set the frequencies for TurboBoost: + 400 MHz for one stream, + 300 MHz for 2, + 200 MHz for 3 and + 100 MHz for 4, until the set TDP and current levels were exceeded. I set them at 180 watts and 120 amps, respectively. I did not touch the voltage and left everything on auto.

Pros
  • 1. Slightly heated 2. Very fast (switched to socket 1155 already from 478!) 3. Overclocks well with a proper cooler
Cons
  • 1. The price is quite high 2. I came across a Costa Rica processor, only later I found out that they seem to be chasing better.
