Because these batteries were shipped uncharged, the charger was confused and thought that either the batteries were not installed or the charger could not provide enough current to charge the batteries. As a workaround, I put an old (green) battery and one of these new (orange) batteries in the phone and charged the phone for several hours until the new battery was fully charged. Then I did it again with another new orange battery. Care must be taken with this method as it can overcharge an old battery and cause damage or even a fire! If you attempt this, do so at your own risk. However, once the batteries are charged, they seem to work just fine.
