So here's how this player breaks: ProsMP3 - Long playtime, most sound good, fast CD loading - Standard features as expected Durability - Well it's got years maintained, see below. Worked after the fall. Batteries - The good thing is that you don't have to open it up and pull out the drive to change the batteries. Sound - digital control is nice. Cons of MP3 - not all songs play, some get truncated. I often listen to books on CD -> mp3. This is how Windows Media Player truncates the same files when Winamp plays them normally. They are encoded with a lame encoder and should be fine; However, it seems that if this player clicks on a certain thing, it will skip to the next track (especially with VBR) or continue playing after a track has finished. Sometimes when you play the same file again, it plays fine, which is quite strange. Since this player doesn't support mp3 fast forward, it's really annoying. With no ID 3v2 tag support and partial ID 3v1 support, MP3 support still leaves a lot of room for improvement. Trying to sort the files to play in a specific order is also a problem. I ended up having to make the id-3 tags identical to the filenames with two leading zeros. Also, the same file will play randomly two or three times quite often. Just having 24 programming slots is not enough, I use this player every day for 8 hours a day and stop reprogramming every 30 minutes. unacceptable. CDs - This player starts playback from the beginning of the track, not where you left off. CDs also use more battery power. Durability - I dropped this on the top/bottom join this morning. The fall was only about 2 feet and the top of the crib fell off. When I tried to reinsert the spring and reattach the top, the plastic popped. I can get another Panasonic, but not this model. Sound - No options other than Super Bass. The volume is quite low. If you use the included headphones, the sound is slightly better, but should still be louder. Control - it can be difficult to find the right buttons on the player in the dark. Headphone control would be nice (and is on a different model). Overall - it's decent for the price, but don't buy this if you're looking for an MP3 CD player that gives you real control.
