Waste bins are functional. That's all. We had lids with lids that we took off because our cats didn't like them. I had a litter girl that was great but I don't think it was worth the investment. Last year we got a new kitten who thinks the litter box is a sandpit to play in. I tried closing the lid, installing a privacy screen, etc. I was able to reduce the mess I had to clean up, but it was still a twice-daily task. Then I saw it. Since one of our old cats was getting stubborn, I was nervous. I changed the box and left the old one in the garage (wanted to try everything or nothing to see if they would fit). ALL of our cats use this box, right away! Not only that, the kitten can't throw the litter away, so cleaning has become weekly again. Because of the holes on the top, it cleans their paws of dirt so well that they don't even chase it outside the box like they used to. Have now replaced a second one at our house and am so happy so far. The price justifies replacing all the boxes in our house. My daughter's cat box is next on the list!
