Review on Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras - Lens Only by Hemant Hemant ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best product I have ever reviewed, I recommend it to everyone!

First impressions: I didn’t experience any special delights as a portrait, it’s simply pointless to compare with 85L and 135L. In no case should you photograph women with this makrik, so as not to incur wrath once again. How the macro lens works out at 100%! AF is very fast, focusing in a split second even in low light: f/2.8, 1/30, ISO:640. The stabilizer helps out a lot, allowing you to shoot 1/30 - 1/60 handheld at a scale of 1:1 without straining. The stabilizer is almost inaudible, the 300 f / 4L stub, in comparison, is just a tractor. On a 1:1 scale, the minimum aperture values start at f/10, otherwise the depth of field is measured in units of millimeters. I did not test the glass on the crop, on the FF it gives an amazing macro picture. I’m almost sure that on 50D and especially 7D cameras you won’t be able to get the same picture as on 5D, all other things being equal at f / 10 - f / 32.

Pros
  • The new Image Stabilizer in the Canon 100 f/2.8L IS Macro really works and helps. Focus is very fast, the stub is almost silent. The mount is very tightly seated, there is no backlash at all.
Cons
  • The price of the model is clearly too high. IMHO, the price tag is almost 2 times higher than the previous model only due to the new stub and the red stripe, with such a pricing policy, the old Canon f / 2.8 will be in demand for a very long time. The plastic case of the new Canon 100 f / 2.8L IS Macro looks very flimsy, an inner voice tells you: - Be careful with it :)
