I don't use it for grilling. I was looking for something to control my photo processing chemicals which need to be at +-1 degrees. For that it works great. I can have the probe in any chemical and in the water bath at the same time. The probes are stainless steel so I don't have to worry about reacting with chemicals. The only downside is the tip on the probes, but you can just leave (or glue) the protectors on the tips.
