My dog tolerates it!
I tried another rear-facing backpack and my dog couldn't stand it at all. I got it then and she didn't seem to mind at all. I had to walk down a hill using roots for supports and rocks for steps. When she was in front, she actually used her paws to push off to help her down. It was easier to get in and out of and other tourists actually thought it was pretty cool. I think she felt safe.
