Update: 20 Aug 2009, lens had major problems shooting at 200mm, very poor blurry images, had to return under warranty. I read somewhere that the lens is plastic like it feels like, that's not true. On the contrary, I liked the construction and the matte texture the most. I've taken it to a few outdoor events and at least non-lens savvy people ask how much I paid for it and are impressed with the price and overall quality. The reason I bought this lens is mainly the SIGMA brand, I also have a Sigma 30mm 1.4 which is amazing, the build quality, finish, materials, colour, fonts are all the same. For me, the lens makes a solid, very well-made impression. Flash shots look lifelike, with no washed-out colors or odd exposures. I have a Cosina 70-210 and I think the Sigma is much better overall with less distortion, more controlled exposure and better color quality. Mine was bought when it was fifty dollars. Conclusion: I recommend this lens to anyone looking for a cheap lens. If you like taking lots of low-light shots, get a Nikon VR telephoto lens. If you have a D40, the D60 expects manual focus as it doesn't have a built-in lens drive. In a way that's a good thing, the less stuff the lighter it is. I mainly use it for sports, so autofocus isn't a problem for me. Four stars for such an unbeatable price! Sigma did it again! Update: I bought a used D70, the autofocus is very quiet, fast and smooth. Autofocusing in low light isn't a problem as the D70 and all new DSLRs have a focus assist light.
