Cheap lenses over lenses

Lens received but defective. Error replacing. I think you get what you paid for, I would say spend a little more money and buy a good lens.

Pros
  • Hands-free
Cons
  • Minor problems

Doesn't work with D3300 DSLR

The description states that this lens is exclusively for Nikon digital cameras. If you have a D3300 WILL NOT AUTOFOCUS. Nowhere in the description is this mentioned. I had to send the lens back.

Not for all cameras

WARNING, if you have a cheap entry-level DSLR, you should buy this one. This camera lens has no motor and if your camera does not have a motor it will not auto focus. if i had known before buying, otherwise i would have saved on nikor 55-200mm.

Sharpness High Price Low for this lens

Some people praise this lens, others praise it. You've all heard the 50mm 1.8, right? This Sigma lens has almost the same price-to-sharpness ratio. It's not as bright as a 2.8 lens, but it's not as expensive either. If you can afford it buy a 2.8 lens, if not then this is the lens you need. It is very sharp but softens on the outer edges.

What I received was not what I ordered.

The description says it is an auto focus (AF) lens. The packaging and accompanying documentation indicated that it was an autofocus lens. In fact, the lens itself was not an AF lens. I don't know if it was just someone else's mistake (accidentally putting the wrong lens in the box) or what. I was very disappointed. I ended up returning it and buying a Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR [Vibration Reduction] Zoom Nikkor lens for $65 more and I'm very happy with it. I will say that the…

Plastic body, light weight, amazing optics

I've had this lens for a while and although I've sold it it's actually pretty good value for money. Anyone expecting a professional 2.8 lens at this price is going crazy. The first thing you'll notice is that the build quality is super plastic, even toy-like. That put me off but to get a better lens you have to pay hundreds if not thousands, the Nikon 55-200 alternatives are also plastic and Sigma doesn't offer a 55-200. in EX version. However, the Sigma 55-200 does have some merits if you're…

An excellent quality budget lens, I recommend!

Update: 20 Aug 2009, lens had major problems shooting at 200mm, very poor blurry images, had to return under warranty. I read somewhere that the lens is plastic like it feels like, that's not true. On the contrary, I liked the construction and the matte texture the most. I've taken it to a few outdoor events and at least non-lens savvy people ask how much I paid for it and are impressed with the price and overall quality. The reason I bought this lens is mainly the SIGMA brand, I also have a…
