As others have pointed out, the way batteries are held isn't perfect. You can get it to work (unreliably) by fiddling with the batteries and the end cap seal, but it's really not a production-ready item. I had to go back. Editing you need to move this from two stars to one star. The thing is real crap. If you put new batteries in the mains, you may have a few minutes before it stops working. Remove the batteries and reinstall their networks for a few minutes; then everything, new batteries are needed again. Basically fiddling with the lid, fiddling with the batteries, then repeating the attempt, dropping it in the hole and switching places before repeating it all over again.
